You only need a few minutes in Villa 11 before you realise why the owners of this house fell in love with Paraty back in the 1960s.
The villa has three suites and is located 10 minutes by boat from Paraty’s historic centre. It is surrounded by lush Atlantic rainforest and a magical garden, with an abundance of native trees and tropical flowers. There are two hiking trails within the property which take in the ruins of an imperial fort with its original canons and a 360 degree view of the bay of Paraty.
The villa’s landlord owns the well known Pousada do Sandi in Paraty’s historical centre. The internal décor is tasteful and stylish with floor to ceiling windows which show off the spectacular tropical rainforest and emerald green sea.
Should you wish to visit some of the many tropical islands in the area or gather mussels at the mussel farm in Pouso da Cajaiba, there are two speedboats available to hire.
If you wish to bring a group of friends to a stunning location in a beautiful house, we suggest combining Villa 11 and 14.
One side of the property has a overlooking the beautiful bay and the other side of the property has a gorgeous colonial style farmhouse with tasteful interiors boasting gorgeous Brazilian art and furniture.
Access to the villas can only be made by boat across the beautiful emerald green waters of Paraty´s bay. Once at this paradise location, we suggest you enjoy everything it has to offer, from lazy days on the beach to walks through the villa´s stunning tropical gardens (which boast the ruins of an Imperial Portuguese fort), as well as making use of the sauna. Pizza nights and barbecues in the outdoor eating area are a must.
Villa 14 is a mere 10 minutes by boat from Paraty’s historic centre. It is located on its own private beach and surrounded by lush Atlantic rainforest gardens with stunning views out to the bay of Paraty. The villa is Portuguese colonial in style and tastefully blends modern furniture with antique art.
The villa oozes charm and is an idyllic hideaway from which to immerse yourself in nature. The views out to the bay of Paraty and the surrounding rainforest are simply stunning and if you are feeling active you can swim in the emerald green sea or simply take a walk through the rainforest.
Those who know Paraty will understand how special it is to stay in the historic center. After spending a day exploring the magical coastline, it is ideal to come back to a home near the shops and restaurants of this quaint colonial town. Villa 16 offers exactly this option.
This beautifully restored colonial house is situated in the middle of Largo do Rosário. The original façade and walls of the house have been preserved while the interiors have been given a more contemporary touch which makes this a charming, cosy house.
There are open plan sitting room and kitchen and a winter garden where you can enjoy lazy breakfasts before heading out on boat trips. The villa´s landlady owns a beautiful “schooner” boat which can be rented at an extra cost. Villa 16 is the perfect place to come back to after a day out at sea and really make the most of the best of Paraty.
It might sound like a bit of a cliche, but this villa can only be described as a “unique hideaway”. It was originally a fisherman´s house in the heart of the Saco do Mamangua, near Paraty. It has been sensitively and tastefully restored by well-known Brazilian architect, Thiago Bernardes. It is unique in that it goes beyond the traditional concept of luxury of five-star hotels.
Luxury in this villa, is the privilege of being surrounded by some of the most beautiful, pristine and untouched scenery in Brazil…this is a piece of paradise which affords visitors total privacy. Luxury in this villa is spending time in a place with no electricity but which uses a modern generator that makes no noise. Luxury in this villa is its simplicity, while also providing all the comforts you need: Internet, comfortable beds, hot showers and the most delicious food cooked by the villa´s talented cook.
As well as the restauration of the original fisherman´s house, the villa now has two annexes surrounded by lush rainforest. There is a central living area with a kitchen and sitting room, which can also be made into an en-suite bedroom. All rooms face the pristine, crystal-clear sea. In order to enjoy the many beaches and islands, it is also possible to rent one of the local fishing boats.
This is a must villa in our portfolio precisely because of its uniqueness… something we value and believe in at Matueté.
Villa 10 takes you back in time to Brazil’s 19th century colonial past. This grand mansion is located on a farm that was an important sugar and coffee plantation from the 1800s onwards. The estate also has the second most important historic sugar mill in Brazil. Today, the farm breeds Mangalarga Marchador horses.
Every detail of this house is impressive and it is one of the most extraordinary rural properties in Brazil. It has been impeccably renovated, both externally and internally, and tastefully decorated with period furniture, carpets, rare porcelain objects and other period pieces.
The attractions are many and follow the tranquil rhythm of farm life: a swimming pool and barbecue area for sunny days, as well as a living room with a fireplace for cozier moments. All this on a plot of land surrounded by greenery as far as the eye can see in the Rio de Janeiro region of Paty do Alferes
